Genesis House Summer Homeless Shelter

Genesis House is a low-barrier summer shelter located on the property of Genesis Church.

Genesis House Purpose:

We believe that it is the moral mandate of our faith community to provide a low barrier safe summer environment for persons to receive proper shelter and to get a good night’s rest no matter what their emotional, physical or economic circumstances might be.

At Genesis House we don’t wish for anyone to be without a home, but know that it is a reality so we are here to serve. We do so by not only providing a safe shelter and a bed for the night, but by building relationships. Our volunteers always treat our guests with compassion and respect. We know that no matter where they are now, our guests are still individuals who deserve to be treated kindly. Our guests are faced with many struggles throughout the day, so we do our best to build them up and let them know that they do matter. We deeply care about every person who stays with us.

One thing that makes Genesis House volunteers and supporters happy is to assist our guests to the point where they are able to support themselves. It is proof to the community that not every person who is homeless wants to stay that way. We have and will continue to support our guests through hospitalizations, drug & alcohol treatment, pregnancies, job losses, job gains, and finding housing. Even though we are only open 12 hours, our volunteers find time to listen to our guests, get to know them, and encourage & support them in the ways they need it most.

Genesis House is open from 8 pm-8 am every night from April 10th 2011 through October 31st 2011. We have a bus pick-up every night at 8:15 pm at the corner of Grimes Lane & Morton Street.
